For years, I thought fixing my acne meant more products. More serums, more acids, more steps. I tried everything from 10-step routines to prescription treatments, and honestly? My skin was exhausted. Breakouts, redness, texture, it felt like I was constantly “treating” my skin instead of actually helping it heal. What finally worked was doing less, not more.

I stripped my routine back to two basic skincare products and focused on supporting my skin from the inside out. That’s when things slowly but consistently changed.

The Two Products I Actually Use

This might sound dramatic, but these are honestly the only two skincare products I use on a daily basis now.

The first is a Korean glow serum with propolis and niacinamide. I like it because it keeps things really simple. The niacinamide helps keep your oil levels more balanced and evens out your skin tone over time, and there’s a gentle BHA in it that helps keep your pores clear without irritating the skin. The propolis is what really sold me though, it’s super nourishing and hydrating, and it helped calm my skin a lot. Once I started using this consistently, my skin felt less angry and reactive, and breakouts stopped popping up as often.

The second product is a gentle gel cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin. I’ve used so many cleansers that made my face feel tight and dry, which only made my acne worse. This one actually cleans your skin without that squeaky-clean feeling. It removes buildup and excess oil but still feels really light and refreshing, which makes it easy to use every day. I noticed fewer clogged pores once I switched to this and stopped using harsh foaming cleansers.

The Habits That Made the Biggest Difference

One of the first things I added was fresh carrot juice a few times a week. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which supports skin health and helps reduce inflammation. I noticed my skin tone looked more even within a few weeks. Nothing extreme, just one glass in the morning or afternoon.

I also started eating sardines regularly, which I never thought I’d say. They’re packed with omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and vitamin D, all nutrients that support hormonal balance and reduce inflammatory acne. I usually have them on sourdough or in a salad a couple of times a week. Not glamorous, but very effective.

Another simple addition: a handful of almonds daily. Almonds are rich in vitamin E and healthy fats, which help repair skin, fight free radicals, and maintain a natural glow. Snacking on them consistently made a noticeable difference in my skin’s texture and resilience.

Another underrated change: stable blood sugar. I stopped skipping meals and made sure every meal had protein, healthy fats, and fiber. When my energy levels evened out, my skin followed. Fewer random breakouts, especially around my chin and jaw.

What I Stopped Doing

This part matters just as much as what I started. I stopped over-exfoliating. No scrubs, no daily acids, no constant “purging.” I also stopped touching my face, picking breakouts, and switching products every few weeks. Skin needs time to respond. I stopped blaming my skin and started supporting it.

If you’re struggling with acne, this is your reminder that you don’t need a complicated routine. Sometimes the answer is fewer products, better nourishment, and giving your skin space to recover.

I’ve linked the two skincare products I use on Amazon here and here if you’re curious, but remember, the real change comes from consistency, patience, and supporting your body as a whole.

Simple works.
